Foreigners who work in Cambodia need the right visa and a work permit, and the employer must follow the rules on hiring foreign staff.
Two separate documents
- Business (Ordinary or EB) visa: gives the right to stay
- Work permit: gives the right to work, issued by the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training
Typical steps
- Company registration and labor registration: your employer must be registered
- Enter on the correct visa: usually a business visa, which can be extended
- Apply for the work permit through your employer, with your passport, photo, medical or health documents, CV or qualification papers, and the employment contract
- Pay the fees and receive the work permit book or card
- Renew each year before it expires
- Apply for a residence or extended stay card if you want a longer stay

Employer duties
- Keep a quota of foreign workers within the limits set by law
- Pay the required government fees and keep records
- Report changes in employment
Tips
- Start the process as soon as you arrive, because permits take time
- Keep your documents in order, and keep scans
- Do not work without a permit, because fines can apply to both you and the employer
Requirements and fees change. Check with the Ministry of Labor and the immigration department.
