Use this checklist to plan a smooth move.

Before you leave

• Check passport validity and choose the correct visa
• Arrange health insurance and travel insurance
• Get vaccinations and medical records as advised by your doctor
• Notify your bank and set up international banking and cards
• Copy and store important documents digitally
• Decide what to ship and what to buy locally
• Arrange temporary accommodation for the first weeks

First week

• Buy a local SIM card
• Install ride-hailing, banking and map apps
• Visit an ATM or open a bank account
• Register your address as required and keep your lease
• Learn the local transport and the neighborhood

First month

• Extend your visa or apply for a work permit and residence card
• Find a long-term home and sign a written lease
• Get a local driving license if needed
• Find a doctor, a dentist and the nearest hospital
• Set up utilities, internet and insurance
• Register your family at your embassy if recommended

For businesses

• Register the company and get tax registration
• Open a business bank account
• Apply for licenses and labor registration
